Comic Mark Watson heads to The Brindley, Runcorn

EDINBURGH Fringe regular and Time Out award-winner Mark Watson will be heading to Runcorn in October for his latest live show.

Last year Watson invited fans to suggest destinations for his 2011 shows, and The Brindley is one of 50 locations that were chosen for his tour, which will run until Christmas.

Since his debut performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2001, the comic’s fame and popularity has steadily risen, with him now being considered one of Britain’s favourite funnymen.

In 2005 he was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Perrier Comedy Awards, and in 2006 he won the first ever Panel Prize at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards along with the Time Out Critic’s Choice award.

The 31-year-old has performed a number of unusual shows, such as 24-hour long performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where comedians such as Tim Minchin and Tim Key joined him on stage.

Since then Watson has hosted a variety of shows such as We Need Answers with guest panellists Germaine Greer and Michael Rosen.

In 2010, Mark Watson Kicks Off was aired on ITV4 which saw celebrity guests taking part in unusual sport-related question rounds.

Regular appearances on comedy shows Mock the Week and Never Mind the Buzzcocks have secured his place at the top end of the comedy circuit, and have landed him with his own show Improvisation My Dear Mark Watson, which is broadcast on the Dave channel.

A Brindley spokesperson said: “Expect a mixture of old favourites and new material from Mark Watson; experimental stuff and some of his greatest hits.”

The show takes place on Wednesday, October 19, at 7.30pm.

Tickets priced £15 are available on 0151 907 8360 or online at www.thebrindley.org.uk
