AN ACTOR who grew up on a farm in Flint is to woo landlady Liz McDonald in Coronation Street’s Rover’s Return.
Ian Puleston-Davies, originally from Oakenholt, started filming for the ITV soap in April and will be appearing on screens as Owen Armstrong on Monday.
Ian, 51, will play the father of the soap’s first disabled character to appear regularly, Izzy.
He is also to become Liz McDonald’s latest love interest.
He said: “I’ve been watching Corrie all my life, I’m so damn nervous and very excited of course.
“My good mate Reece Dinsdale (who played Joe) said I’ll have a ball.
“I know a few of the regulars so I’ll just get them to hold my hand at the beginning.
“I just can’t wait for my first pint of Mackeson in the Rover’s – or should that be Newton and Ridley!”
Coronation Street press officer Rachel Newton said: “Owen is a bit of a rough diamond and a tough-but-tender dad to Izzy.
“He’s got a colourful past but there is soon a spark between him and Liz.”
Initially he will be filming for a six-month stint.
Ian’s interest in theatre started when he was at Flint High School.
He then joined the Clwyd Youth Theatre before going on to get a place at the Guildhall School of Drama.
He has previously starred in one-off BBC drama Ingenious, alongside Ray Winstone in ITV’s Vincent and played the lead roles in BBC Three series Conviction and Funland.
He also appeared in Guy Ritchie film Revolver.
Ian co-wrote drama Dirty Filthy Love, based on his own experiences of obsessive compulsive disorder, which aired on ITV in 2004.
