Family’s charity help in Robert’s name

A LOVING gesture from friends and family of a Bagillt Huntington’s Disease sufferer has helped raise £3,000 for charity.

Diane Craig’s husband Robert has been suffering from Huntington’s, a genetic brain disorder, for 12 years.

He had to move into Morfa Newydd Nursing Home, Mostyn Road, Holywell, in March from the family home in Ridgehill Drive.

Friends of the family helped Diane organise a charity entertainment night for the Huntington Disease Association (HDA) at Lymm Cruising Club in Cheshire.

Diane said: “An auction, raffle, comedians and singers made it a night to remember. There was a terrific response from kind-hearted guests.

“Robert was an engineer based in Manchester before the illness took hold. We’re delighted to present a cheque to the association.”

Huntington’s disease, also called Huntington’s chorea, or chorea major, is a neurological disorder characterised after onset by uncoordinated, jerky body movements and a decline in some mental abilities.

The condition itself isn’t fatal, but as symptoms progress, complications reducing life expectancy increase.

Up to seven people in 100,000 have the condition.

HDA is a registered charity supporting people affected by the disease.

It provides information and advice to professionals whose task it is to support Huntington's Disease families.
