Two hurt in A5119 smash at Flint Mountain

TWO men suffered multiple injuries in a horrific crash in Flint Mountain yesterday morning.

Police and firefighters were called to the scene of the two-vehicle collision, involving a red Vauxhall Vectra and a black Seat Ibiza, near Mountain Park Hotel on the A5119 Northop Road at 7.17am.

The Seat Ibiza, left the road and plunged 15 metres into a ditch.

The red Vauxhall Vectra remained on the roadway.

Both casualties, who have not been named, were the drivers and sole occupants of their vehicles.

A North Wales Police spokesman said initial reports suggested two people were trapped and three fire crews from Flint, Deeside and Mold were joined by a rescue tender from Wrexham.

Four paramedic crews were also sent to the scene.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said one of the men, a 35-year-old, was rushed to the Countess of Chester Hospital, with multiple injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

A Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley was called after the air ambulance was unable to reach the crash due to high winds and a low cloud base.

An RAF spokesman said the helicopter descended and followed the A55 to the site of the collision.

He said: “We were still affected by the bad weather and a decision was taken to take the casualties to hospital by road ambulance instead.

“The road was closed in both directions, from the A55 to the garage near Flint High School, until the afternoon.”

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward and anyone with any information should call the 0845 6071002 (English line) or 0845 6071001 (Welsh line).
