Funeral takes place in Connah’s Quay of nine-year-old drowning victim Jordan Baker

THE FUNERAL of nine-year-old Connah’s Quay drowning victim Jordan Baker, took place on Tuesday at St Mark’s Church, in the town.

Jordan was swimming in the River Dee with his father, brother and a friend on May 31 when he was overcome by strong currents and was swept to his death.

Sandra MacAllister, headteacher of Jordan’s school, Ysgol Bryn Deva, attended the funeral.

“A lot of staff and children attended with their parents,” she said.

“It was a really lovely funeral, very moving, his family did him proud. The church was completely full and everyone was asked not to wear black.

“They played some modern music, as well as some nice hymns that I think Jordan would have liked, including Jesus Bids us Shine, Morning has Broken and All Things Bright and Beautiful.

“The thoughts of everyone are with Jordan’s family at this very sad time.

“Jordan was a popular, very caring boy. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and the staff.”

Jordan was also a popular member of Shotton Steel Rugby Club.

In a statement the club commented: “Jordan was a promising future talent for Welsh rugby. He was a player all coaches were proud of. They loved coaching him because of his amazing aptitude and attitude at training. He was looked up to by all the young players at the club.

“He was extremely well liked by players and staff and always stayed and helped to pack away kit when others ran off.

“He will be greatly missed by the club and our deepest sympathy goes out to his family for their sad loss.”

Jordan leaves behind his brothers Lewis, Ronnie and Bobby, sisters Latisha and Abi-Louise, mother Jennifer Baker and father Christopher Moore.
