THE Most Reverend and Right Honourable Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York, officially opened the £3million Tucker Building at the Warrington campus.
With up-to-date equipment, the building is home to excellent teaching facilities for students. It also provides a focal point for businesses in Warrington, offering a wide variety of services.
Festival launch
CAROL Ann Duffy, the country’s new Poet Laureate and the first woman to hold the 400-year-old post, launched this year’s Autumn Festival in Molloy Hall.
Organised as part of the Shell Chester Literature Festival, this year’s programme featured a number of guest speakers of national and international acclaim.
Other highlights included an event with TV vet Steve Leonard about the BBC programme Orangutan Diary, and a night hosted by David Peace, the writer of controversial novel ‘The Damned United’ who was described by the Independent as ‘Britain’s hottest author’.
On the move
THE Faculty of Health and Social Care’s Wirral Centre has moved from its base at Arrowe Park Hospital to more extensive, bespoke premises, better suited to the needs of its students and staff.
The Centre at Clatterbridge Hospital is being used to deliver both pre-registration and post-registration nursing programmes, catering for both trainee nurses and those furthering their existing nursing qualifications.
Fat busters
EXPERTS from the University played a leading role in a unique national television programme focusing on overweight owners and their obese pets.
Scientists from the Centre for Exercise and Nutrition Science (CENS) were on hand to put the human stars of Fat Pets, Fat Owners through their paces.
One step closer
PLANS to create a £20 million Centre of Higher Education at the heart of a new Wirral Learning Zone have moved a step closer, after a proposal submitted by the University was given the green light to move onto the second stage.
Out of 23 proposals submitted to the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), just six across the country have been given approval to move forward.
