A DATE has been set for a four-day public inquiry into an allegedly oversized landfill site on the edge of wetlands in Deeside.
D Morgan plc has appealed against enforcement notices issued by Flintshire County Council for allegedly doing building work and extending a dump in Aston, near Ewloe.
Now a planning inspector will rule on the works carried out at Sea View Farm at a hearing in July.
A council spokesman said: “A public inquiry is scheduled to be held at Ewloe Social Club over four days from July, 6, 2010.
“The inquiry will consider an appeal against the serving of three enforcement notices for the alleged overfilling of landfill on the site and a disputed access road.
“A Welsh Assembly Government planning inspector will conduct the inquiry and will consider the evidence.”
He added: “It is anticipated that the inspector’s report will be published within three months of the conclusion of the inquiry.”
The farm borders a wetland area that is thought to contain protected species such as the great crested newt.
Environmental campaigner and county councillor Klaus Armstrong Braun said: “It’s an important site for wetland life, insects and hedgerow creatures that go into creating a vibrant level of biodiversity in this particular area.
“I’m pleased that after things have gone on for eight to 10 years, finally a decision is going to be made.”
Campaign groups in the area suggest that landfill sites could pose additional health threats.
Ten years ago a public inquiry ruled in favour of D Morgan after the council alleged unauthorised development at Sea View Farm.
