A YOUNG man drove along rural lanes at 80mph to escape police after officers disturbed him and his girlfriend experimenting with cocaine.
Christopher Tarran, 20, drove for about five minutes at speed in an isolated spot at Black Mountain between Nercwys and Eryrys, a court was told.
The area of Cae Newydd Road close to the mountain was an area which police knew was used by people taking drugs, Flintshire Magistrates Court was told.
Officers patrolled the area, that night drove along the road and saw Tarran parked up in his Fiesta with a female alongside.
But as officers got out to approach the vehicle, he drove off at speed.
There followed a chase but officers abandoned it because they considered his driving was so dangerous.
They later checked at his home at Hilbre, Ruthin Road, Llanferres, and found the car there.
Tarran admitted dangerous driving in Ffordd Cae Newydd on February 5, together with possessing cocaine and failing to stop for police.
District Judge Andrew Shaw committed the case to the Crown Court for sentence.
An interim driving ban was imposed.
Phillip Lloyd Jones, defending, said they were not regular drug users but decided to experiment when they found the drug.
Instead of taking it on the chin when police arrived, he foolishly drove off in a panic.
