PREPARATIONS for a new Mold festival are well under way.
‘Mold Salutes’, Flintshire’s 70th commemoration of the Battle of Britain, is likely to be held in the town between August 18-22.
It will be a four-day event based in Mold and the surrounding villages and will include a fly-past, street parties, 40s-themed evenings, parades and films, all based around the Battle of Britain.
The event organiser, Mold town councillor Tim Maunders, is keen for people to get involved.
“We’re looking for volunteers and Second World War memorabilia for a showcase at Clwyd Theatr Cymru,” he said.
“I’m also hoping to get hold of some old military vehicles, as well as field bikes and old uniforms. We will also have an air raid siren and hold a poppy drop. We’re hoping the local pubs will get involved as well by changing their names for the day to something more war-related.”
If you would like to get involved or have any Second World War memorabilia you would like to lend organisers for the duration of the event, call Tim Maunders on 07972 345411, email moldsalutes@hotmail.com or call 08001 422790.
There is also a Facebook site set up entitled ‘Mold Salutes’.
