Duke and Duchess of Westminster’s daughter Lady Edwina marries TV presenter Dan Snow

THE Duke and Duchess of Westminster’s daughter Lady Edwina has married TV presenter Dan Snow in a low-key wedding.

Although the couple’s romance was well known, news of the secret ceremony only emerged 48 hours after the event.

The marriage was conducted by the Bishop of Liverpool, James Jones, in a chapel at his official residence in Woolton, Liverpool, on Saturday, attended by close family.

He is the Prisons’ Bishop and Lady Edwina works as his personal assistant.

The informal event was in complete contrast to the wedding of the Duke and Duchess’ eldest daughter, Lady Tamara, who married Edward van Cutsem, 36, at Chester Cathedral in 2004 in front of the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and Princes William and Harry.

The couple, who dressed informally for their big day, said: “Neither of us has ever wanted a big white wedding and we are delighted that we have been free to plan a simple and relaxed wedding exactly as we wished.”

The ceremony was attended by the Duke and Duchess and the couple’s other children Lady Tamara, 31, Lady Viola, 18, and the Earl Grosvenor, Hugh, 19.

Mr Snow, best known for his history slot on BBC1’s The One Show, was accompanied by his family, including his father Peter Snow, the former Newsnight presenter.

The party returned to the Grosvenor’s family seat at Eaton Hall, near Eccleston, for a reception. They will honeymoon in January.

Lady Edwina, 29, who studied criminology and sociology at Northumbria University, was introduced to charity work by her parents.

Her mother Tally is Prince William’s godmother, while Lady Edwina herself is a goddaughter of the late Princess Diana. Her father is a close friend of the Prince of Wales.

Of her two eldest girls, the Duchess said: “They are very level- headed, sensible and fun-loving but very wise.”

The Duke added: “They have picked a certain amount of ‘scally’ humour, especially Edwina, she’s a wonderful mimic. It’s exceedingly nice to say one is proud of one’s children and mean it.”

A spokeswoman for the Diocese of Liverpool said: “The Bishop of Liverpool was delighted to conduct the wedding of Lady Edwina Grosvenor and Dan Snow.”
