One dead in UK school trip crash

A coach carrying schoolchildren has crashed in Northern France, leaving one man dead and others seriously injured, the Foreign Office (FCO) said.

The coach was returning to Birmingham with 49 people on board when the accident happened on the A26 near Compertrix.

No details of injuries were immediately available but the Foreign Office said it has set up a helpline for those concerned, which can be called on 0207 008 1500.

The bus involved was owned by Solus Coaches, which is based in Tamworth, Staffordshire.

The accident happened near the city of Reims in the Champagne-Ardenne region of France.

The FCO said it is providing consular assistance to those affected.
