Athletics – Triple joy for Flintshire’s finest

THREE Flintshire long- distances aces were crowned North Wales Junior Cross Country League champions on Saturday after the fourth and final race in Colwyn Bay.

Deeside Athletic Club duo Kathryn Roberts and Oliver Thomas claimed the Under 13s girls and U11s boys titles respectively while the U11s girls prize went the way of Ysgol y Foel’s Lily Davis.

Lily, from Deeside’s Charlotte Walters in fifth (7.29mins), Lois Edwards in seventh (7.47) and Molly Gregorious in 14th (8.52), made it four victories from four in 6.45.

As did the equally unstoppable Kathryn in 10.24, from clubmates Georgia Bates in fourth (11.39), Hannah Griffiths in fifth (11.56), Hannah Piercy in sixth (11.59) and the Alun School’s Lottie Cooper in seventh (12.13) and Madison Davis in eighth (12.24).

Oliver’s first race win, in 10.11, was enough to haul him above Menai’s John Spill and clubmate Danny Bennett in the final standings.

Danny was third (10.52) on the day, with fellow Deesiders Lawrence Henry in fifth (11.19), Daniel Threadgold in eighth (11.55) and Rhys Bennett in 10th (12.04), backing him and Oliver up.

Deeside’s Andrew Williams won the U13s boys in 12.34 but had to settle for second overall.

That is one place better off than Matthew Blackwell, who finished fourth (13.17) on the day behind one of his Deeside clubmates, Tristan Henry in second (12.51), but ahead of another, Grant Leach in fifth (14.03).

Deeside’s George Oliver passed the post in third (16.40) in the U15s boys to take third overall.

Jenny Lampkin finishes second and Shannon Chilton third in the final U15s girls standings after they came second (14.42) and fifth (15.57) respectively on the day, with Deeside clubmates Carys Edwards third (14.57) and Laura Blackwell fourth (15.22).

Deeside won the U15s girls, U13s girls and U11s boys team awards.
