Netball – Lloyds rip up the formbook

IMPROVING Lloyds Ladies A caused one of the shocks of the North East Wales League Division One season when they edged out high-flying Colwyn Sports.

The Flint outfit’s 44-43 triumph meant they climbed off the bottom for the first time and prevented Colwyn from moving clear in second.

Wrexham Ladies took over that position after they were awarded a 40-0 whitewash over a Marks & Spencer side unable to raise a team.

Mold Sports recorded a welcome 42-28 Division Two win over clubmates Mold Dragons to haul themselves into mid-table.

Sports were made to battle all the way by their young opponents but, with goal attack Sara Sprowell at her sharp-shooting best, they recovered from losing the first quarter to take the last three.

The Dragons, for whom goalkeeper Suzanne Miller starred, remained rooted to the foot but could take consolation from the fact that their efforts brought them their first point of the campaign.

Divas won a thriller with Sharp Harlequins 52-42.

Goal attack Tracy Davies did most of the damage for Divas, with Jodie Green doing all she could for Sharp.

Holywell Ladies ended their four-match losing start to Division Three by holding youthful clubmates Holywell Hawks to a surprise 31-31 draw.

And, inspired by goal defence Becky Booth, they would have broke their duck had the Hawks, led by goal defence Nia Meredith, not produced a final-quarter fightback.

Under-strength Diva Dragons had to concede their clash with Deeside Darts, who claimed a 40-0 victory as a result.

Dragons NC stretched their lead at the top of Division Four with a 38-12 success over Ruthin Thunderbirds.

With hot-shot goal shooter Karen Burke in fine form, the Thunderbirds never really stood a chance, although goal defence Eleri Davies did her best.

Buckley Jets completed the double over Rhosnesni Robins after just getting the better of them 30-26.

The shooting of goal attack Laura Price ultimately proved the difference for Buckley, who had trouble containing Andria Hall.
