Golf – Awesome foursome drive in

PENNANT Park Golf Club’s new captains have driven into office.

Captain Trevor Sharp, lady captain Lynn Bailey, senior captain Brian Lord and junior captain Joe Silver braved the cold conditions to get their tenures off to a flying start.

David J Roberts and Ann Sharp were the winners of the captain’s drive-in competitions that followed. Roberts (30) won the men’s on a countback from Phil Thompson (30), who was runner-up on a countback from Ted Bland (30), with the women’s going the way of Ann Sharp (30), with Bailey (25) runner-up on a countback from Pam Joinson (25).

Ladies Winter Stableford: January 10 – 1 Sandra Murphy (18) 2 Bailey (18); January 17 – 1 Heather Taylor (20) 2 Bailey (18); January 24 – 1 Taylor (26) 2 Pam Joinson (21).

Ladies Winter Shield: 1 Taylor 2 Bailey 3 Pam Joinson.

Seniors Winter League: January 22 – 1 Geoff Foulkes (33) 2 Dave Foley (32).

It was a family affair at Holywell Golf Club on Saturday in their Team of Three competition.

Brothers Denys and Mervyn Davies, members of the club for more than 40 years, teamed up with Richard Owen (68) to take top spot from Dave Andrew, Paul Newton and Dave Thomas (66), who were runners-up on a countback from Phil Reid, Jason Jones and Darren Edwards (66).

James Perrett (20) won the following day’s Junior Stableford from Liam Reed (18).
