THERE is still time to catch the UK premiere of award-winning Serbian chamber opera Narcissus & Echo, which is at The Lowry in Salford until tomorrow.
In 2003 Anja Djordjevic won the Stevan Mokranjac Prize for Narcissus & Echo, the first contemporary opera staged by a female composer in Serbian music.
These UK performances will be presented in English.
Producer Milan Govedarcia said: “Narcissus & Echo has been on my mind since I saw its original production in Belgrade in 2002.
“Nine years later, I’m delighted to announce the first UK premiere of a Serbian opera ever.
Narcissus & Echo is from the classical Greek myth of the nymph Echo and her fatal love for the beautiful Narcissus.
With music that draws on the baroque sound of Purcell and Monteverdi, this chamber opera blends both the classical and the contemporary genres.
The production can be seen at The Lowry tonight and tomorrow.
