Caergwrle Castle

Caergwrle Castle was built between 1277 and 1282 by Dafydd ap Gruffydd (brother of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd).

Dafydd launched an ill-fated rebellion against the English which led to Edward I's successful military campaign in Wales. Edward rebuilt the ruined castle, but it was abandoned shortly afterwards because of fire damage. The wooded hill provides an interesting walk and viewpoint looking out over the Alyn Valley.
