Fuel checks catch out drivers in Holywell

VEHICLES using fuel illegally have been found in the Holywell area.

During a four-day operation, drivers in Holywell and Lloc were found to be using rebated diesel illegally.

A spokesman for HM Revenue and Customs said: “Illegal fuel use isn’t a harmless fiddle. It’s a deliberate and determined effort to defraud honest drivers who pay the proper duty.

“Rebated fuel is only for use in certain vehicles and in certain circumstances. This exercise serves to remind the public how seriously we take any attempt to misuse fuel for financial gain.”

Road fuel testing officers targeting commercial and private vehicles challenged drivers in Flintshire, Anglesey, Gwynedd, Denbighshire, Wrexham and Conwy.

During the operation they tested fuel in 533 vehicles and detected 18 illegal cases.

Officers also seized 19 vehicles and issued penalty notices which totalled £7,500.
