Robbers’ raid on Coach and Horses pub, Flint Mountain, leaves landlord and customer in hospital

ROBBERS beat a terrified pub landlord and his friend with baseball bats and threatened to slit their throats with a samurai sword.

The horrific attack happened shortly before 1am on Monday, when three men forced their way into the Coach and Horses, Flint Mountain.

The landlord, Stuart Shaw, was having a quiet drink with a friend.

Once inside the attackers threatened Mr Shaw and demanded cash.

Mr Shaw and his friend, who was a customer, were then assaulted.

Twenty-nine-year-old Mr Shaw, from Chester, sustained a broken arm and head and leg injuries.

The customer suffered arm injuries.

Both were taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.

Managing director Stuart Bickerton-Starky said: “This was a devastating incident. My staff are just doing their job.

“My manager was lucky to escape with the injuries. They’re very serious though. He was hit with a baseball bat several times and punched.

“The people who did this, for everybody’s safety, our staff and the public, shouldn’t be allowed to escape prosecution.

“Lovely Day Inns will put up a reward for the arrest and successful prosecution of these criminals.

“They continued attacking even though they got what they wanted.

“One of them even threatened to slit the customer’s throat with a samurai sword.

“If people don’t stand up to these criminals and put them behind bars, someone is going to be killed.”

North Wales Police said the three offenders left the pub having stolen an undisclosed amount of cash.

A spokeswoman said: “Enquiries are underway. All three offenders are described as wearing dark clothes and had most of their faces hidden with clothing.

“A group of customers left the pub shortly before the robbery. We’re anxious for them to get in touch. They may have seen something that may be able to assist officers with their inquiries.

“We’re appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time and who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to contact Mold CID on 0845 6071001 (Welsh language line) 0845 6071002 (English line) or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
