Pontybodkin Enjoy-a-ball director nominated for £2,000 Open University study award

A FLINTSHIRE woman has been shortlisted for an award which could help her on the way to a new career.

Sharon Bassett, from Pontybodkin, is among 10 people shortlisted for the Open University Skills Award.

The winner will be given a £2,000 study voucher, with two runners up claiming a £500 voucher.

Sharon is director of Enjoy-a-ball Ltd, a company which focuses on sports coaching for children aged between two-and-a-half and nine.

She said: “I’m delighted to have been shortlisted for this award.

“From my own experience, I really believe education can change lives.

“Throughout my career, and especially since being self-employed, I have implemented creative ideas that I would never have had if I hadn’t pursued new learning opportunities, met interesting people as a result and explored ideas.

“It’s really exciting to think of the new and positive challenges ahead.”

Sharon has combined work and study in the past to develop her career and eventually help her set up her own business.

She hopes this award could bring a new dimension to her skills and options for the future of her business.

Judges for the award originally intended to whittle the entrants down to a shortlist of five, but were so impressed by applicants they picked 10 finalists.
