A VILLAGE post office has been saved from closure thanks to the quick thinking of Holywell Mayor Rosetta Dolphin.
Northop Hall post office closed last month after ‘John the postmaster’ as he is affectionately known in the village, became ill with Parkinson’s Disease.
So Rosetta, who is currently postmistress of Greenfield Post Office, agreed to fill in until a permanent replacement can be found.
Tony Sharps, deputy council leader, said: “Rosetta has very kindly stepped in as temporary postmistress in order to keep this valuable service running for the community.
“John, who is well-loved in the village, will still help out in the shop, but I think it will be best for everybody if we find a buyer for the business.”
Sue Hodgins, of Post Office Ltd, said: “I’m delighted to say that the branch which has been temporarily closed in early September will now reopen with immediate effect.
“I would like to thank our customers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience that the temporary closure may have caused them.
“I hope they will support this branch and our subpostmaster.”
