GOLDEN boy Charlie Hulson led Flintshire’s charge at the Welsh Schools Cross Country Championships in Brecon on Sunday.
Super Hulson won the Middle Boys race in 17.54mins followed by fellow Alun School pupils Jamie Wright in third (18.21) and Jordan Ellis in 32nd (20.42). St Richard Gwyn Catholic High School’s Sean Williams was 23rd (20.18) and Luke Thomas 43rd (21.13).
The Alun’s Richard Evans past the post in fourth (10.04) in the Year 7 Boys with schoolmate Tristan Henry 29th (10.51). Ysgol Maes Garmon’s Grant Leach came 15th (10.36), Castell Alun High School’s Luke Thompson 23rd (10.45) and Argoed High School’s Lloyd Jones 24th (10.46).
David Mountford raced to fifth (20.07) in the Senior Boys, with fellow Deeside College student Andrew Bromley being edged into 30th (23.21) by St Richard Gwyn’s Tom Snowdon in 29th (23.21).
Connah’s Quay High School’s Abi Oliver matched Mountford’s fifth position (15.22) in the Middle Girls. Castell Alun’s Andrea Swan was 35th (17.57) and Argoed’s Rebecca Squires 42nd (18.20) and Patricia Byrne 64th (19.42).
Katherine Roberts recorded an eighth-placed finish (12.53) in the Junior Girls with another Castell Alun pupil, Shannon Chilton, taking 36th (14.31). Hawarden High School’s Jenny Lampkin was 26th (14.05), the Alun’s Carys Edwards 40th (14.35) and Laura Blackwell 45th (14.42), Elfed High School’s Amanda Kelly 48th (14.51) and Argoed’s Lucy Byrnes 49th (14.52).
Our country’s sole competitor in the Senior Girls, the Alun’s Rebecca Davies, came 12th (20.39).
In the Junior Boys, Hawarden’s Andy Williams was 20th (14.37), Ryan Hedges 26th (14.50) and Matt Deakin 47th (15.31), followed by the Alun’s Matt Blackwell in 61st (15.57) and Holywell High School’s Matt Purnell in 64th (16.15).
And in the Year 7 Girls, the Alun’s Charlotte Cooper was 36th (12.08) and Madison Davies 64th (12.59) and Hawarden’s Hannah Piercey 43rd (12.17) and Grace Deeley 46th (12.20).
