Bowls: Bailey Hill cement pole position in Flintshire Midweek League Division One

A STUNNING performance from Viv Roberts (21-2) could not prevent Bailey Hill from cementing pole position in Flintshire Midweek League Division One.

Roberts and Iwan Davies (21-19) offered Sychdyn A’s replies in their 10-2 reverse at the Hill, for whom Mike Riley (21-4) and Andy Delooze (21-8) stood out.

Alan Murphy (21-18) spared Connah’s Quay A’s blushes as they were thrashed 11-1 at second-placed Gresford Colliery while James Espley (21-19) offered Broughton A’s sole response in their 11-1 turnover at Cunliffe A.

Third-placed Fron Park (Matthew Foster 21-9, Chris Rimmer 21-10) left Esclusham as 8-4 winners, Coed Talon A (Dave Vaughan 21-9, Tudor Griffiths 21-11) won 9-3 at home to Hawkesbury A (Andy Jones 21-11, Dave Thomas 21-14).

Aston A (Martin Jones 21-5, Stuart Baker, Fred Pickford 21-14) slipped behind the Division Two pacesetters after they lost 8-4 at fellow high flyers Gate A.

Sychdyn B (Kevin French 21-6, Sue Stanworth, Ken Davies 21-8) were in big-hitting form as they sent Flint A (Frank Jones Jnrs 21-12, Paul Pearson 21-16) packing 10-2.

Broughton B, inspired by Alan Bennion (21-3) and Jack Hutton (21-4), pulled clear of danger with a 9-3 home victory over Rhydymwyn A (Pauline Jackson 21-7, Alwena Topley 21-15). New Brighton (Len Yankey 21-7, Paul Evans 21-13) are also looking up after their 8-4 win at home to Cunliffe B. Airbus (Kevin Massey 21-10, Adrian Allen 21-11) were downed 9-3 at Pentre Broughton.

Greenfield (Daniel Palmer 21-7, Richard Jones 21-8) moved level on points with Castle Sports at the top of Division Three with a 10-2 home trouncing of Hoole Park. Castle (Glyn Percival 21-8, Hywel Jones 21-9) had to settle for a 7-5 success at Hawkesbury B (Malcolm Anglesea 21-10, Brian Hodgkinson 21-14).

Castell Alun A (Colin Saul 21-8, Peter Williamson 21-9) triumphed 9-3 at home to Mancot (Eddy Brookes 21-7, Kath Altmann 21-15), Flint B (Kris Hayes 21-6, Darren Williams 21-11) won 8-4 at home to Gate B.

Carmel (Andy Roberts 21-10, Norman Lloyd, Steve Roberts 21-11) tasted basement battle joy, 8-4 at home to Coed Talon B (Stuart Thomas 21-12, Meg Edwards, Alf Lloyd 21-13). Mostyn (Peter Fawcett 21-12, Derek Lloyd 21-13) matched that score at Penyffordd (Dave Shield 21-10, Dave Walker 21-12).
