Your Champions: Peter Shone of Flintshire Neighbourhood Watch Association nominated for Person of the Year
A HARD-WORKING volunteer has been nominated for a Chronicle/ScottishPower Your Champions award.
Peter Shone, 60, of Buckley, has donated his time to the Flintshire Neighbourhood Watch Association (FNWA) for the past three-and-a- half years.
Jackie Lee of FNWA said: “As a team we feel Peter represents what a community volunteer champion stands for, he is a pillar of society.
“He has enthusiastically volunteered for Flintshire Neighbourhood Watch Association for more than three years and over that time has worked hundreds of voluntary hours for the benefit of Flintshire.
“Peter not only voluntarily maintains our fleet of vehicles and units but he also transports and staffs them at many community safety events.
“He has an infectious personality which engages well with people of all ages, which enables him to get the important crime prevention and reassurance message across where some people cannot.
“Over the years Peter has also enthusiastically assisted at Home Office campaign events, supported major incidents and high profile crime prevention events and initiatives, linking in with in excess of 25,000 people.”
Jackie added: “Peter continues to contribute ‘over and above’ for the benefit of people who live, visit and work in the Flintshire and Wrexham areas.
“He is a role model and is dedicated to helping others. His generous and excellent qualities as a volunteer will never be taken for granted by us and should be rewarded.
“We feel we owe Peter something in recognition of all the hard work and support he has given us over the years and this award would be a perfect way for us to say ‘thank you’ on behalf of the people of Flintshire.”
Peter said: “The FNWA is a very worthwhile cause. The whole team really put the hours in and get results, they really deliver.
“So many people volunteer their time and it’s all for the good of the community, for the good of Flintshire.”
