A GROUP of fundraisers has been nominated as Team of the Year in the Trinity Mirror/ ScottishPower Your Champions 2010 awards.
The Good Companions of Holywell Hospital raises money for equipment and resources for the town’s hospital.
It was formed in 1964 and has 30 committee members, with a waiting list for people who want to join.
In March 2008 the new hospital opened and since then the Good Companions have been able to buy state-of-the-art medical equipment, donate furniture and provide a garden for the patients.
Fundraising events include garden fetes and coffee mornings and money is also raised through the group’s charity shop and the hospital tea bar.
As well as fundraising, the group gets involved with local schools, who have been in to sing to patients and created artwork for the building.
Gwynedd Jones, who nominated the organisation, said she had put it forward for ‘raising money for much needed equipment for the hospital and also their kindness to patients’.
Founder members of the Good Companions, John and Jean Saunders, have also been nominated for a Your Champions award.
Jean said: “We’ve had some great people working with us over the years.
“We have brilliant support from the community as well and are always getting donations from people.”
Jean estimated the Good Companions had raised about £20,000 this year alone.
