Your Champions: Ronnie Lambert nominated for Person of the Year

A TIRELESS fundraiser has been nominated for a Your Champions award for his half-century of charity work.

Ronnie Lambert, 86, of Mostyn, has been helping out at a number of voluntary organisations, most recently the Good Companions of Holywell Hospital, where he is still active.

What makes the charitable pensioner’s story more remarkable is that Ronnie has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma – a type of cancer of the lymphatic system – and has had the condition for the past 20 years.

Ronnie began his work with the National Spastic Society (now Scope), arranging a number of charity nights in different clubs, and has been a member of the Welsh Air Ambulance Service.

Nowadays, Ronnie has a regular fundraising table in Holywell Community Hospital, collecting up to £250 in funds each time on behalf of the Good Companions organisation. He has done so since his wife Eira died seven years ago.

The Your Champions nominator said: “Ronnie is a real asset to the town, but he does not want huge recognition. He says it is all about helping others rather than himself.

“It’s a great sentiment and an ethos we all should live by.”

Ronnie said: “I am surprised about the nomination. It’s great to have people donating at the hospital.”
