Flintshire man jailed for using hidden camera to film women and girls

A PERVERT was jailed after a court heard how he secretly filmed women and girls for his own sexual gratification.

Derek Manning, 47, admitted a string of charges which involved filming females using a toilet or in a state of undress.

Manning, described as an isolated man whose activities had become something of an obsession, had thousands of pornographic images on his computer, Mold Crown Court heard today (Friday).

And he admitted that for years he had been secretly filming up the skirts of women and girls without them realising.

He had used a hidden camera in a carrier bag to go about his sick hobby in Mold and Chester.

Manning, of Wepre Lane in Connah’s Quay, was jailed for 14 months and put on the Sex Offenders register for 10 years.

Judge Philip Hughes said the offences went back to 2005.

“The charges before the court do not cover in its entirety all your activity,” he said.

The defendant had images of children aged five-14 on his computer together with a number of videos, the court heard.

“This kind of offending cannot be tolerated by the court,” Judge Hughes said.

Manning admitted possessing more than 4,000 indecent images of children and 64 films of a similar nature.

Elizabeth Bell, prosecuting, said one image showed a woman using a toilet.

Another woman needed counselling after she discovered that she had been photographed in a state of undress in a bedroom.

Interviewed, Manning also admitted he had filmed girls through a bedroom window and in a toilet.

Duncan Bould, defending, said the offences reflected the isolated nature of the defendant’s adult life.

He added: “These offences became an entrenched pattern of deviant behaviour.”
