Trophy for team’s highly powerful performance

A MOLD company is celebrating after scooping a national award.

West Coast Energy (WCE) came second in the National Arboricultural Skills Competition held at the University of Kent.

WCE Network Services is a power line maintenance and vegetation management company, who work all year round cutting trees and vegetation away from overhead power lines.

The competition tested the team of arborists Lee Watkins, Terry Bennet and Rob Mays on many of their skills, including their use of chainsaws at height to remove foliage and branches, the use of insulated tools to cut away vegetation around power lines, a rescue from the top of an electricity pole, a rescue from the top of a tree, a speed climb and a first aid procedure.

Operations director, Kevin Hunt, said: “The staff worked well together and each individual’s skills complemented the other team members.”

The team came away with a trophy and vouchers for specialist tools.
