Connah’s Quay ice skater offered role in Disney US production after being spotted by bosses on YouTube

A TEENAGER is to tour America with Disney on Ice – after videos of his skating on YouTube attracted the attention of show bosses.

Ben McNulty, 18, from Connah’s Quay, will fly out to America in October to start rehearsals for the American tour of ice production Finding Nemo.

He has been skating at Deeside Ice Rink since he was eight and is a member of Deeside Ice Skating Club.

His dad, Mike, said: “Ben put a couple of videos of his routines on YouTube and someone at Disney saw them and contacted him for some more specific information.

“They got back to him and offered him a role on the North American tour.”

Ben will start rehearsals on October 5, when parts will be allocated to skaters.

Mike said: “He is absolutely over the moon and can’t wait to get out there. He has starred in lots of the Deeside shows before and can do partner work and solo work so we’re hoping he’ll be given at least an understudy part, if not a main role.”

After 12 months appearing in Finding Nemo, Mike said Ben will be transferred to another show to join the world tour. The tour will take in parts of Europe and Asia and Ben will have the chance to perform in his home country with shows at London’s O2 Arena and the MEN Arena in Manchester.

Mike said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Ben.

“He has always wanted to do something like this – you have to be 18 before you can join the shows.

“We will definitely be going out to America to watch him perform!”

Ben practices his skating four or five times a week and is currently working with ex-Olympic competitors Marika Humphreys- Baranov, who appeared on ITV’s Dancing on Ice, and Vitaliy Baranov, both coaches at Deeside Ice Rink, on new routines to impress Disney producers.
