Achange in careers after starting their families has made two Christleton women fighting fit.
Speech therapist Rachel Freeman and her namesake Rachel Barnes, who worked in recruitment, have set up Verve Health and Fitness in Gatesheath near Tattenhall, to provide a personal and tailor-made fitness regime for clients.
They have three children apiece.
“We met when we started having children and got into fitness ourselves. We then had the idea to set up a studio for people who are perhaps uncomfortable in a professional gym,” said Rachel Barnes.
The duo trained as personal trainers on a diploma course from REPS (Register of Exercise Professionals).
“We studied anatomy and physiology as well as nutrition and we work with our clients to create a healthy lifestyle,” continued Rachel.
“The success of our programmes is based on proven combinations of cardio-vascular activity, strength training and flexibility.
“We don’t use big machines but work on functional exercises. We do have one treadmill but we use a lot of weights, bands and balls.”
Clients usually book in blocks of six sessions.
“People come to us for all sorts of reasons,” added Rachel. “They come to achieve fat loss, muscle tone or core stability. We are also specialists in pre and post natal work and work with women who want to alleviate problems caused by the menopause.”
All of the duo’s clients are women.
“People should exercise about three times a week in an ideal world but we tailor programmes to suit individual needs and budget.”
A new plan for the spring is to start a speed walking club based on the Swedish form of conditioning known as ‘fartlek’, which means ‘speed play’.
“We would also like to develop a type of boot camp but with a more gentle programme,” added Rachel.
“The key message is that we work with our clients to develop a healthy lifestyle which involves exercise and healthy eating.”
The Verve Health and Fitness studio is based on the Bolesworth Estate at Shire House, Chester Road, Gatesheath. For more information visit the website: www.vervehealthandfitness.co.uk or telephone Rachel Barnes on 07866 034356.
