Flintshire scheme nominated for award

A FLINTSHIRE initiative was nominated for a national award.

Flintshire Community Safety Partnership’s Online Watch Link (OWL) was nominated for the Good Communications (GC) 2010 Awards.

Denise Edwards, of Flintshire Neighbourhood Watch Association, Jackie Lee, OWL administrator, and Supt Rob Kirman attended the awards ceremony in London last month to represent the scheme.

OWL is a communications system which enables scheme coordinators and members to receive alerts and messages on incidents in their areas.

Messages can be sent out and received by telephone, email, fax or whatever mode of communication the person chooses.

OWL started in Flintshire two years ago and is now available to Neighbourhood Watch schemes in Flintshire and Wrexham.

Supt Kirman said: “Our ability to get messages out to the public quickly is very important and the OWL system gives us that facility.

“As a partnership, both in Flintshire and Wrexham we are always looking at ways we can reassure the public and involve them in helping to reduce crime in their communities.”
