Mostyn man in court over air rifle offence

A FORMER soldier triggered an armed police response when he began shooting cans in his garden – after drinking 15 pints of lager.

Plasterer Jason Alun Hughes, 39, was also said to have drunk two or three Bacardi chasers.

When he heard a noise around the front of his house he went to have a look – still holding the rifle, although it was not loaded.

Hughes then went to his shed, where he fell asleep listening to music until he was woken by the sound of the police helicopter.

Someone had raised the alarm after seeing him with a gun.

Hughes was arrested and the air rifle was found in the dog kennel, Flintshire Magistrates Court at Mold was told.

Hughes, of Ffordd Dyfrdwy, Mostyn, admitted he possessed the rifle in a public place outside his home and was fined £300 with £100 costs. The gun was confiscated. Magistrate Edwin Hughes said: “It is highly dangerous to drink and go around with an air rifle.”
