Thousands of children take part in Flintshire playschemes
THOUSANDS of children across Flintshire have been enjoying a range of activities as part of the summer playscheme programme.
The programme is the largest scheme in any county in Wales with sessions operating from 70 sites.
And our latest pictures show children enjoying schemes in Nercwys, Buckley and Mold.
Play development officer Janet Roberts said: “About a third of the county’s child population is using a local playscheme and making the most of the open spaces and play facilities in their area.”
Children are taking part in a whole range of activities from sports to arts and crafts and even bike riding.
There are 110 play workers employed for the programme, as well as playscheme buddies, who provide support for disabled children.
The scheme is funded by Flintshire County Council in partnership with town and community councils and runs for five weeks during the summer holiday.
Janet added: “The programme is all about giving children the opportunity to play, although there is also a positive effect on families who have their children coming home healthier and happier.”
