A FLINTSHIRE man has put pen to paper and written a book about the rich history of the county.
Mike Devlin, of Mynydd Isa, was born in Flint Mountain and has spent all his life in the area. “I have always had an interest in local history since school,” said Mike. “It was the only thing I was interested in other than football.”
His new book entitled Intrigue of the Past, Around and About Flintshire looks at interesting historical facts about the area.
Mike, 67, started writing the book about six years ago and said: “Not only do we have a growing population here in Flintshire, but also a more transient one. Therefore it is reasonable to assume that many of our fellow citizens are unaware of the areas rich history, the battle for survival, the pride derived from being Welsh and the knowledge of the many sacrifices made in the area which constitutes not only our heritage, but in many aspects our way of life.
“The book is not intended to be a definitive history of the area, but to give a basic insight of events over the years.”
It covers the former Second World War munitions factory in Rhydymwyn, hanging Judge Jeffries who was born in the area and once lived in Pontblyddyn, and the Mold riots.
“It has been an enjoyable experience putting this book together,” said Mike. “It is fascinating to discover the historic events that have taken place on our doorstep.”
The book is priced at £9.99 and available from The Beaufort Park Hotel, New Brighton; The Blue Anchor Inn, Buckley; The Blue Bell Inn, Halkyn; The Griffin Inn, Mynydd Isa; Premier Stores, Mercia Square, Mynydd Isa; Siop y Siswrn, New Street, Mold; The Book Shop, High Street, Mold; or from Mike at 56 Bryn Clwyd, Mynydd Isa.
