Your Champions: Ysgol Glanrafon, Mold, nominated for school award

CHARITABLE children and staff at Mold’s Ysgol Glanrafon have been nominated for a Your Champions award in the school category.

The school has been nominated by Elwyn Roberts of the British Heart Foundation.

“This year Ysgol Glanrafon presented the Mold branch of the British Heart Foundation, of which I am chairman, with a cheque for £1,920,” he said.

“This money was raised by the children, who were sponsored for completing various physical activities, which also made them aware of the need for exercise to keep the body fit.

“This was a tremendous achievement and was the highest amount raised by an individual school throughout Wales for the BHF.

“They have also raised money for other charities this year and the headteacher, staff and parents are to be commended for encouraging the children to support worthy causes.

“I have no hesitation in recommending Ysgol Glanrafon for a Your Champions award.”

Headteacher Llinos Mary Jones said: “We feel honoured to have been nominated for this award and are very pleased to be recognised for all our hard work.”

Not only has Ysgol Glanrafon raised £1,900 for the BHF, it has raised £300 for Children in Need, £1,400 for Diabetes UK, £300 for Macmillan Nurses, £1,000 for Moebius Syndrome and £300 for Urdd Gobaith Cymru.

“This is quite an achievement,” added Miss Jones. “It is a credit to the parents for their generosity and kindness.

“We raise an average of £500 per month toward good causes.

“Being able to sympathise with other people’s needs is a priority that we pride ourselves in as a school. It forms an important part of our moral teaching and raising awareness of global citizenship.”
