Chester drink-driver crashed on A55 in Northop

A DRINK-DRIVER who crashed his car on ice on the A55 at Northop in the early hours of the morning was later found to be more than twice the limit.

Defendant Connor Mathieson, 22, admitted driving when he had 75 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath, compared to the legal limit of 35.

At Flintshire Magistrates’ Court at Mold, he was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £100 with £100 costs.

Andrew Warman, prosecuting, said that shortly before 2am on December 8, North Wales Police received a call about a collision on the A55 near Northop.

Police later stopped a car on the A548. The defendant smelled strongly of intoxicants, the court heard.

Mathieson, of Chester, was a full time student who was funding his education by working as a barman.

He was very remorseful, said Brian Cross, defending.
