Fatal collision on A55 claims life of Flintshire man

A FLINTSHIRE man has died following an incident on the A55 in Chester.

Cheshire Police said a man in his 20s, believed to be from the Connah's Quay area, was killed at the scene of the accident near the Vicars Cross roundabout on Friday (January 14)  at about 6.15am.

Rush hour traffic backed up on the North Wales-bound carriageway of the A55 in Chester and on to the M53 after the fatal collision.

The A55 at Vicars Cross was closed for hours following the accident near Vicars Cross roundabout involving a BMW car and a pedestrian.

The driver of the car, a 45 year old man from Chester, was uninjured.

Following the road closure, traffic travelling on the A55 North Wales bound carriageway from Ellesmere Port and the M53 was diverted off the A55 at the Vicars Cross interchange. This caused significant traffic congestion during morning rush hour. Traffic heading into Chester on the A51 between the Tarvin Roundabout and Vicars Cross was also affected, and was slow moving.

Police are appealing for witnesses and are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision between the car and the pedestrian, or who may have any information which could assist the collision investigator. If you can assist, please contact the Roads Policing Unit at Chester on 0845 458 0000.
