Children at Southdown Primary School, Buckley, invite Prince Williams to mock wedding

CHILDREN at a Buckley primary school celebrated the upcoming royal marriage with their very own wedding.

Reception pupils of Southdown Primary School gathered at Emmanuel Bistre Church for the mock wedding of Hannah Ryder and Luke Bewley.

Even Prince William and bride-to-be Kate Middleton received an invite to the big day.

Headteacher Andrew Wilkie said: “We did write inviting Prince William and Kate to the service, especially if he happened to be flying over this way in his helicopter from Anglesey, and we said he was welcome to drop in.

“We thought he might be able to get some ideas for his own wedding.”

Prince William politely declined the invitation, but wrote to the school sending his ‘warmest thanks and best wishes’.

Reverend Martin Batchelor, who ‘married’ the happy couple, said: “It is nice for them to see how events like weddings can be very happy and joyful occasions which bring family and friends together.”

After the ceremony guests were treated to a wedding breakfast and disco at the Beaufort Park Hotel in New Brighton, near Mold.
