Manchester United star Michael Owen visits Rector Drew Primary School, Hawarden

CHILDREN welcomed back Rector Drew Primary School’s most famous former pupil.

Manchester United star Michael Owen was the special guest at the Hawarden school’s fundraising fete at the weekend.

The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and England met starry-eyed fans and officially open the celebrations on Saturday.

Owen, 31, signed autographs and took time to talk to football-mad youngsters as well as chatting to familiar faces – including his old headteacher.

Current headteacher Liz Andrews told the Chronicle the day was a great success.

“The final total isn’t in but we have raised about £1,900 – it’s an amazing achievement.

“Thanks must go to everyone who helped make it such a brilliant day.”
