Connah’s Quay landlord ‘lost it’ when man defecated on doorstep

A 43-YEAR-OLD landlord has admitted assaulting a man he saw defecating on his doorstep.

Judge Andrew Shaw, sitting at Flintshire Magistrates Court at Mold, said he was satisfied defendant Phillip Stephen Ellis had been provoked.

Ellis, of Dee View Road in Connah’s Quay, admitted assaulting Howard Craig Jones on May 9.

When police arrived Ellis said Jones had been involved in a dispute with his female tenant.

He ran out when he saw Jones defecating on his doorstep and ended up assaulting him. Ellis admitted he ‘lost it’.

Elizabeth Bell, prosecuting, confirmed police found human faeces on the doorstep.

“There was a very obvious catalyst to this incident and that was the behaviour of Mr Howard Jones,” the judge said.

The defendant was a man of no previous convictions and in the circumstances he was fined £100.

Miss Bell said the defendant was the owner of the property and he rented out a room to a woman.

She had previously been in a relationship with Mr Jones, but Ellis had evicted him.

Police arrived to find Mr Jones receiving treatment for head injuries in the back of an ambulance, the court heard.

Speaking of his reaction when he caught Mr Jones in the act, Ellis said: “I lost it. You would, wouldn’t you?”
