Buckley woman competes for Miss Wales 2012 title

A BUCKLEY woman will go head-to-head against 46 others in Cardiff this weekend for the chance to be crowned Miss Wales 2012.

Stephanie Owens, 21, from Buckley, will take part in the event on Saturday night at St David’s Hall having won her place alongside other in a series of 22 regional rounds over the last six months.

The grand final will be the culmination of a three-day intensive programme, which will begin with an empowerment day today (Thursday) designed to inspire the girls and grow their self-esteem.

A charity ball tomorrow (Friday) evening in aid of The Joshua Foundation will celebrate the fundraising efforts of the contestants as part of the Miss Wales Beauty with A Purpose ethos. Rehearsals will take place across Friday and Saturday before the grand final and an after show party will also take place at 411 nightclub in Cardiff on Saturday night.

At the event all contestants will be interviewed and take part in three catwalk rounds including a Welsh wear round, party wear round and evening wear round in front of a panel of judges.

Event organiser, Paula Abbandonato from Vibe, said: “Every year the Miss Wales contestants do a remarkable job. Through the event they are inspired to make a difference to not only themselves but to the lives of others around them.

“We expect to make thousands for our adopted charity, The Joshua Foundation, as part of our commitment to Beauty with A Purpose. We are all very excited to find out who are new titleholder will be.”

The winner of Miss Wales 2012 will go on to represent Wales at Miss World in Mongolia this summer.
