Flintshire gets ready to party for Jubilee

THE county’s streets will be filled with bunting and trestle tables as residents host street parties to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Twelve applications for road closures have been put in to Flintshire County Council so celebrations can take place between Saturday, June 2, and Tuesday, June 5.

Residents in Rhodfa Cilcain, Mold, are hoping to repeat the success of the party they held for last year’s royal wedding.

Organiser Sarah Murphy said: “Last year’s party went so well we wanted to do it again.

“Last time nearly everyone in the street came and we had lots of activities for children.”

Carron Pygott, from Grays Road, Mynydd Isa, said some of the people invited to their celebrations remembered marking other jubilees.

“Some of the residents have been telling us they remember having a street party here for the Silver Jubilee so it will be great to do it again,” she said.

Events are also planned for streets in Northop, Saltney Ferry, Broughton, Flint, Ewloe, Soughton and Mancot.

In Caerwys celebrations will start on the Saturday, with a Diamond Jubilee party held in the Royal Oak car park and entertainment including a Punch and Judy show, a magician, bouncy castle, children’s karaoke competition and performances from the Caerwys Male Choir and bands.

On the Tuesday 500 balloons will be released in the town in a Jubilee balloon race.

Events in Northop will include Dancing Down The Decades with Danny Jay and disco music at the Edith Bankes Memorial Hall on Monday, June 4, from 8-11pm.

In Gwernymynydd residents can enjoy a royal parade through the village on the Tuesday before a party at the village centre.

Parents of children interested in being a king or queen in the parade should contact Anita Thomas at the Swan Inn on 01352 752537 or Karen Jones on 756954.

Vintage car owners are being reminded to take their vehicles along to Mold’s Jubilee celebrations.

Town councillor Tim Maunders is having his 1927 Austin 7 rewired so it is ready for the display at Mold Celebrates on Tuesday, June 5.

The day, which will have a 1950s theme will also include entertainment from musical theatre group Buzzah! and band Zoot Serious and a Bellyful of Bop.
