Flintshire Citizens Advice Bureau issues scam caller warning

FLINTSHIRE residents are being warned of scam callers posing as the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB).

Salli Edwards, chief executive of Flintshire CAB, said she had a report of someone receiving a phone call from a man claiming to be from the service.

She said: “A resident has been contacted by phone by a caller saying he could help her get a refund of up to £2,000 on any protection payments for loans she has had.

“She kept telling him they had not had any loans and he said that he was calling on behalf of CAB.

“The resident advised she had used the CAB and knew this was not right and called the CAB.”

Salli warned people not to trust callers offering to help with debt problems or claiming back payment protection insurance (PPI).

“We want to stress that no genuine CAB adviser, or anyone connected with the CAB service, would ever phone or text someone out of the blue,” she said.

“We will only phone existing clients or to remind people about their appointments.”

She added: “If you are cold called or get a text that offers you a loan, help dealing with debt problems or claims to be from your bank – it is almost certainly a scam.”

She advised people who have received cold calls or text messages to
