Coldplay disc auction helps Pantymwyn Village Hall

A FLINTSHIRE village has a world famous band to thank for a planned refurbishment of the community hall.

A Coldplay gold disc donated to the Pantymwyn Village Hall Committee by guitarist Jonny Buckland, originally from the village, sold for £450 at auction at Bonhams in London on Tuesday.

And the group donated £10,000 from their charitable foundation after hearing of the plans for the hall – where Jonny spent some of his childhood.

Chris Johnson, chairman of the Pantymwyn Village Hall Committee, said the group approached all of the residents to ask for donations and Jonny’s parents John and Joy let him know about the fundraising drive.

He said: “Coldplay have been a massive help. I can’t emphasise how much it means, they’ve been absolutely great.

“As well as the financial support, their help means we’ve been able to go to other organisations and say Coldplay are supporting us and they’ve come on board as well.”

The committee has also received funding from rural regeneration agency Cadwyn Clwyd and the lottery to raise £55,000 needed for the work, due to start in September.

The cash will allow the committee to replace drains, install a new kitchen and new wiring and pay for a new roof and new windows.
