Four Flintshire council workers suspended over ‘operational and financial irregularities’

FOUR council workers have been suspended in a probe into alleged financial irregularities.

Two men and women from Flintshire County Council’s streetscene department were sent home last week and an investigation has begun.

Sources say the allegations relate to discrepancies involving the authority’s Alltami depot – the base for streetscene services, which include waste collection, recycling, grass cutting and highway maintenance.

Colin Everett, Flintshire’s chief executive, said: “Flintshire Council confirms that it has suspended four workers within the streetscene service for alleged operational and financial irregularities.

“An investigation is under way and North Wales Police have been informed.

“The streetscene service will operate as normal and interim arrangements have been made to ensure continuity of service until the investigation is complete.

“No further information can be provided to avoid the risks of identifying the individuals involved or prejudicing the investigation.”

About 500 people are employed in the council’s streetscene department, with the majority based at Alltami.

A North Wales Police spokesman said the force had been informed, but no arrests had been made.
