Chester church wants ideas for ‘reflective’ mural

AN ARTIST is seeking views over what should be depicted in a mural he is painting at a Chester church.

West Kirby-based Jim Fleming has been commissioned by Upton United Reformed Church in Heath Road as part of a refurbishment of their foyer.

The aim is that mural should portray the history and the community in what is described as ‘a sustaining reflection of Upton’.

It is intended the mural will provide ‘an engaging and interesting visual attraction’ to those who use the building.

The church says Jim has done a number of interesting and engaging murals in the North West including some places of worship.

Members of the community will be involved in the process of deciding of what should be depicted in the mural.

Arrangements are in hand for pupils from Westlea Primary School to meet Jim and offer their ideas. He will also be meeting with the Local History Group for its input.

There will be a coffee morning at the church on Saturday, September 15, from 10am to midday, when Jim would like to meet and receive ideas from residents.

Church minister Rev Sarah Simpson said: “Upton United Reformed Church sees itself as part of the local community and delights in the number of people who use its facilities week by week.

“We see the mural as reinforcing our commitment to the community of Upton as well as providing an

interesting focal point to those welcomed through our doors.”

Ideas for images on the mural will be completed by the end of September and the mural will be installed in October.
