Scientist Brian Cox films at historic Flintshire site

BRIAN COX, presenter of Science Britannica, has been filming at the Valley site in Rhydymwyn for a forthcoming science series for the BBC.

The television crew has been filming in the Grade II listed Building 45, where the initial experiments were carried out into the gaseous diffusion process to enrich uranium.

The show concerns ‘big science’ and the tube alloys contribution.

Eileen Doxford, a Rhydymwyn Valley History Society member from Lymm who was a teenage researcher there in 1943 and one of 10 lab assistants employed testing vacuum containers, was interviewed.

This was the cutting-edge technology of the time before many of the scientists were transferred to the Manhattan Project in the USA.
