A TRAINING officer has won a national award.
Former mechanic Gordon Williams, 48, from Greenfield, near Holywell in Flintshire, was honoured at the Wales Care Awards.
He won silver in the commitment to training and workforce development category sponsored by Educ8 Ltd.
The 10th anniversary event took place at a glittering ceremony in City Hall, Cardiff.
Organised in association with Care Forum Wales, the event is designed to improve awareness of the contribution made by employees who devote their lives to the care sector, and to reward their efforts.
Gordon, who works for Procare Wales, based in Rhyl, said: “It’s come as a very pleasant surprise. “I go to work each day and just do my job to the best of my ability.”
His introduction to the care sector came in 1999 as a support worker doing 24 hour shifts, helping people in community living projects. After studying part time for two years he obtained a post graduate diploma in Applied Behaviour Analysis in 2010.
Gordon has been with Procare for more than nine years, working his way up from support worker to behavioural support assistant and has been training officer since 2007.
