University of Chester raises funds for Children in Need

EVENTS at the University of Chester raised more than £10,000 for Children in Need.

The main campus, on Parkgate Road, was the focal point for a 12-hour rowathon which staff from the on-campus Santander Bank joined.

Gordon Reay, the university’s students’ sports development, performance and coaching manager, said: “Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who was involved and we are incredibly proud of what has been accomplished. To see 500 rowers participating during the course of the event, whether competitively or not was fantastic.

First in the competitive rowing event, rowing 230,000 metres over 12 hours, was the University of Chester Rowing Club. Second place went to M&S Bank and third to Maxiflow.

Other activities organised by Chester Students’ Union included a pyjama party, a cake sale, and dressing up as bears.

Chester Students’ Union President Katie Badman said: “There has been a real buzz about the place over the past week and it goes to show how well everyone can pull together and have a good time doing it. The challenge is now to try and do even better next year.”
