RESIDENTS who live near to the former RAF Sealand base are being advised of a military exercise there later this month.
Soldiers from the Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry (RMLY) will use armoured vehicles, blank rounds and pyrotechnics to simulate battle conditions.
The exercise will take place between Friday, January 25, and Sunday, January 27.
However residents are assured there will be no pyrotechnics or firing between the hours of 8pm and 8am on any of the exercise dates.
The former RAF base on Welsh Road, Sealand, is now part of the Defence Support Group.
A similar exercise held in June last year sparked fear in the community as many residents were unaware the noise of gunfire and military helicopters in the early hours of the morning was a police training exercise.
The Ministry of Defence said the exercise was staged to ensure security operations were fit for purpose ahead of the Olympics.
