Saltney youngsters take part in Holocaust mural project

YOUNGSTERS in Saltney have been helping to create a mural.

The artwork formed part of Flintshire’s 2013 Holocaust Memorial Day event in partnership with Saltney Youth Club and young members of Flintshire County Council’s Participation Group.

The mural emphasises this year’s theme, ‘Building bridges within communities’.

Under the guidance and inspiration of artist Andrea Davies, the children created a three part mural showing how discrimination and genocides across the world can be defeated with compassion and good-will.

The presentation of the mural was attended by the vice-chairman of Flintshire County Council, Cllr Carolyn Thomas, local councillors and the director of lifelong learning, Ian Budd.

Cllr Thomas said: “This was a very special occasion and I was proud to attend and to see the wonderful work of our young people, who are an inspiration.

“The council’s arts, culture and events team devised and coordinated the project and I know that they are delighted with the result.”

The mural will be a permanent fixture at Saltney Youth and Community Centre.
